Hi Keren, how are you today?
I am well, very busy as always and thinking about new collections. I am excited to begin everyday with the will to create something new.
Who is Keren Wolf?
Keren Wolf is a woman, an artist, and an inspirational, energetic and positivity- filled individual who encourages women to break the boundaries and to challenge conventions, to dare to try and make mistakes and then dare to try again.
How and when the passion for jewelry is born?
I began making jewelries for myself when I was eight years old. It all started from my love to fashion and jewelries. I created jewelries and accessories for myself and I knew there was something there because of how the people around me responded to my pieces. That’s when I decided I wanted to be in that realm.
What is the jewel/collection you prefer and why?
I love all of my collections because I create them first and foremost for myself and I create from my own love and passion for jewelries. The collection I love in particular is the “Big Mouth” collection. It is all about lip jewelries that came with a great exhibition that represents how powerful our words are and how we should be positive and say positive words to ourselves and to others. I also love the mouth motif that is very sexy and feminine.
What inspires you?
Many things inspire me! The materials inspire me, people, women, the clients who I meet every day inspire me. In the past I was an actress so the women in theater that are full of presence inspire me. Nature inspires me. Inspiration is everywhere and god is in the details.
Which material do you prefer?
I work with all kinds of materials such as copper, brass, silver, Gold, Gemstones, zircons and diamonds. I love working with brass as I can create many things with it, massive things. The materials I use vary with each collection.
How the collaboration with Solange is born?
I created a runway show collection with Galia Lahav for the couture show in Paris in July 2018. The collection had many face jewelries and eyebrow pieces. It received wonderful reviews and Solange saw it and loved it and had her stylist ask me for the pieces for a shoot. I of course sent them and after a while the pieces came back but Solange’s team never said anything about shooting them. They never updated me. After several months I found out it made the cover of her new album and I was incredibly flattered and honored that she chose only my pieces for the album cover shoot. I personally really love her as an artist and I was excited to be a part of it. I would love to work with her again in the future and create whatever she wants for her.
What is the most difficult project you have done for a client?
It is very important for me to feel connected with whatever I create with every project and to love it. It is important that I stand behind it artistically and that I never compromise. Some projects are a bit more complex and more difficult but there is always a way to get it done. With every collaboration, it is important that I feel a connection with that brand or with the artist and that way it works.
Your typical day.
I have two little girls so every morning I get them ready for school. I then go to my studio in Neve Tzedek. It is a wonderful place because it is a hundred years old building that has a certain energy and atmosphere about it and a lovely story. It is the first house that was built in that neighborhood. I begin a round of meetings and I go shopping for materials. Before I know it it’s almost the end of the day and I come home to my girls. When I’m home I try to disconnect as much as I can even though it’s nearly impossible. Later in the evening I answer emails and people often turn to me on Instagram so I get back to them as well. I then begin to plan the following day. I often travel abroad for meetings and exhibitions. I am very busy and I work hard and a lot but I am very lucky in the sense that I do what I love and I made my hobby my career.
What is something that you would never give up?
I will never give up my originality, quality and uniqueness. I will never do something that I don’t believe in. That is why I love being an independent artist. My freedom is imperative for me to be able to create the things that are 100% me.
