REDMILK MEETS A RUSSIAN PHOTOGRAPHER WHO UNVEILS THE MOST INTENSE EXPRESSION IN PORTRAITURE.
Describe yourself with a poem.
I am a man with five legs, seven arms and twenty heads!
Are you a moody dude?
Absolutely! How did you guess?
Tell us about your childhood.
As a child I was happy and laughed a lot. Now I’m such a pretty serious guy. In childhood I dreamed of eating a mountain of chocolates. Now I do not really like candy. But then and now I love fishing. So somehow I’m still the same child.
After the fall of Communism in URSS, how is the free expression in art now?
I think that in the time of the USSR people could not afford much. But a man needs not so much. I think that even now people around the world are about equally happy. That is, young people are having fun, the elderly are sad. So it was and will be at all times and under all political regimes. Of course, I want to live in a warm climate. It makes you younger. But I already have 40 anyway.
Your photos are full on energy and it seems that world is going to collapse. How do you create that?
I ask people to show what they feel, but do not show. At the same time, I try to make people not think what they look like.
How do you define your style?
My style is called “Furious“. This is the most honest, open and bold style. Soon everyone will use it. Because the furious style does not lie.
Would you stand up for what you believe?
I would rather do it myself. Sometimes you can not clearly explain what you are doing, but you just can not do it differently. As if you gave to somebody your word of honor.
What is passion for you?
Passion for me is what happens to people every day throughout life. The simplest things: joy, sadness, longing, hope. Everything that makes the body move.
Which is the greatest thing that scares you?
Poverty, disease, loneliness.
What’s coming up for you in 2019?
Of course, I’m waiting for spring and summer!
