THE SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST (SXSW) IS THE LARGEST MUSIC, FILM, TECH AND INTERACTIVE CONFERENCE OF ITS KIND IN THE WORLD HELD EVERY MARCH IN AUSTIN, TEXAS AND ATTRACTING OVER 80,000 THIS YEAR. IT’S WHERE THE GREATEST MINDS GO TO VIEW EACH OTHER’S WORK, NETWORK AND COLLABORATE ON FUTURE PROJECTS. IT WAS EXCITING TO BE PART OF THE 2019 EDITION, READ OUR REVIEW AND A LITTLE GUIDE TO SXSW!
The event is broken down into SXSW Music (with 2,000-plus acts performing across the city); SXSW Film (with screenings of anticipated movies, panels and workshops); and the increasingly popular SXSW Interactive, which features speakers, panels and pitch competition, SXSW Accelerator. Over the course of its 10 days, people from around the world attend, each with their own convoluted agenda of the thousands of sessions to attend. The sprawling, all-encompassing festival, has become one of the most important dates on the Texas capital’s calendar since 1987. Today, it’s where some of the year’s hottest films debut, where the most innovative technology is first seen and where some of the most talked-about performances of the music festival season take place. There is something for everyone at SXSW: The learning during the day, the partying in the night, and the networking and business opportunities throughout. But SXSW is a big undertaking. There are hundreds upon hundreds of panels, parties, dinners, concerts, and so on, some officially affiliated with the festival, and others. That means you just have to be willing to wait in line. Realize that you might not get into everything you want to attend. Always have multiple backup plans, and realize that you might not get into your first-, second-, or even third-choice programs.

OUR SELECTION OF THE-ONES-TO-WATCH
British band Easy Life, a multi-instrumental, young five-piece from Leicester debuting at Coachella next April in both weekends. From Australia Angie McMahon‘s dramatic, poppy rock and roll. Winner of SXSW 2019 Grulke Prize for Developing Non-U.S. Act. Alice Phoebe Lou. Don’t let her diminutive stature and disarming personality fool you. When she takes the stage, she is a woman in complete control. Pure talent. Sports Team, an impressive six-piece bringing middle England’s romance and ennui to life: a reminder of why guitar bands work. The band will headline Electric Ballroom this month and will be playing Glastonbury in June. Boy Azooga live quartet, an ensemble that swings smoothly from filmic instrumentals to a rave-tinged rock.
AFTER 10 DAYS IN AUSTIN, HERE’S OUR TIPS TO LIVE YOUR BEST SXSW!
WELCOME TO THE WORLD’S BIGGEST ‘EXPERIENCE’ STAGE!
Bird, Lime, Spin, Jump. Keep these names in mind because e-scooters have taken the streets of Austin.
Instead if your internet connection sucks and you are not confident to stroll around with them, get ready to walk several miles per day
(26 km on my first day, due to excitement to see things i guess, and 24 km on my last day, stressed to get things done).
Do not forget your training gears, the Boardwalk Trail on Lady Bird Lake is just amazing for a morning run or walk.
It’s the land of tacos. You’ll have breakfast tacos (yes, indeed), tacos for lunch, tacos for dinner.
Must-see: Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken located Downtown. You’ll have to queue to get a sit and to have your food but it’s all worth.
By the way: how did Gus’s chicken become “world famous”? Must have had something to do with the spicy-but-not-too-spicy flavor of the standout fried chicken. The place is friendly, fast, cheap!
The vibe of Rainey Street.
The fascination of The Continental Club at SoCo.
The Mohawk Outdoor Bar in River Street.
The craziness of 6th Street.

SoCo (South Congress) is the place to be. The area is packed and full of great cafes, restaurants, boutiques and bars. Most of the boutiques in this part of town are local! South Congress is Austin’s hippest street where you can shop, eat, drink, and see some great live music! Be sure to head into Allens (look for the big red boot) for cowboys boots, Goorin Bros for hats, Feathers for vintage & new adornments, Aviator Nation for 1970’ inspired lifestyle items.
