YOUNG N SANG IS MEN’S STREETWEAR BRAND AND FOUNDED BY DESIGNER COUPLE YOUNGSHIN AND SANGLIM IN 2017. YOUNGSHIN AND SANGLIM WERE BORN IN SOUTH KOREA (1992), AND THEY HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR 12 YEARS SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL. THEY STUDIED FASHION DESIGN AT SCAD (SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN) IN USA. IN 2015, THEY WERE SELECTED AS WINNERS OF CFDA (COUNCIL OF FASHION DESIGNERS OF AMERICA) COMPETITIONS. YOUNG WON A 1ST PLACE IN 2015 CFDA SIGNATURE + CLARA HANCOX FUND COMPETITION. SANG WON A 1ST PLACE IN 2015 CFDA X TEEN VOGUE X TARGET COMPETITION.
In 2016, Recommended as “perfect creative ambassadors” by the CFDA, they collaborated on designing football with the NFL with a CFDA recommendation for 50th Anniversary of Super Bowl. ‘Wing it’ collection introduces the concept of ‘up-cycling’ by patch-working donated and purchased vintage clothes. In patchwork process, they made garments by following sudden inspiration of the moment without sketches. This way shows unexpected and interesting combination of patchwork. When and where young n sang was born as a concept?
In 2018, we launched young n sang since after we made first collection in Korea.
What is the mission of your brand?
The mission of our brand is not only reminding people young n sang as a brand, but also reminding people as a culture.
Where is young n sang made and manufactured exactly?
young n sang studio in Korea.
Could you describe your production process?
Wing it is our motto. Enjoying favorite music, we pursue improvisational patchworking under free atmosphere.
Where do you source your fabrics and dyes?
Wherever vintage clothes are available, we have not dyed so far.
What or who has influenced your work as a socially and environmentally responsible brand?
Upcycling is an innovative work which not only put positive influences in environment but also animate new life in design. A boom in sustainable fashion will naturally influences other fields ; sustainable fashion will became a enormous flow for both fashion and general art-related fields.
Why is sustainable fashion important to you?
Fashion industries are obviously responsible for environmental pollution. Since environmental pollution is one of overarching issues, as designers, we need to deeply consider this matter. In this point, the role of the sustainable fashion is remarkable.
Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know regarding sustainable fashion?
Clothing are necessary for most of people’s life. Sustainable fashion has been drawing many people’s attentions since it can be a great alternative for clothes consumption in terms of environment.
