REDMILK LOVES OUT OF THE BOX MINDS! DISCOVER THE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH LENNE CHAI.
Who and how did you want to work in the entertainment industry?
The fashion industry has fascinated me since I was a little girl, and that first encounter with photography made me realize that this could be a medium for me to communicate my ideas – especially those involving fashion and beauty. I love what I do, and feel incredibly lucky to be doing what I do. My goal is to see how far I can go.
Is there a place where you feel comfortable and what makes it special?
The more I leave Singapore, the more I cherish it! Now that I’ve lived in other cities, I love the comfort, the safety, and having my friends and family near me.
Is there a theme or a cause you are passionate about?
Living abroad has made me see the effects of neo-colonialism in Singapore more clearly, and I’m learning how to embrace the natural beauty of Southeast Asian girls in my work, versus what fits the mold in the Western world.
When you have a bad day and you’re not sure what to wear, what do you wear to feel comfortable and powerful?
There’s just something about a pant suit. Also a face of full of subtle war paint, i.e. makeup.
What is your morning ritual that keeps you sane?
Drinking warm water first thing in the morning l o l.
From the four elements earth, fire, water and air to which do you feel most related? And why?
I relate most closely to water and air – both are always moving, and never standing still. A friend who does palmistry once shared with me that I’m a Gemini with water palms, and called me a renaissance (wo)man.
