WHAT A GENIUS: FROM THE ROAD TO THE GALLERIES OF THE WORLD, HERE THERE ARE TWO "VANDALS" ARTISTS THAT TODAY ARE SHOWING IN THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS GALLERIES.
“I did not receive any artistic education: at the time when I tagged trains in New York, I had never imagined that one day I would have expressed myself on canvas”. Awarded from the Legion of Honor of the French Republic in 2015, his career began with the walls of Harlem and then developed in the galleries of Hong Kong, Zurich, Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Seoul in Moscow. He began to make graffiti on the walls of his neighborhood at the age of 17 under the name of Jon156, founding in 1985 the group 156 All Starz, a historical crew of New York. In Paris he found the great international success. JonOne’s first solo show in Rome presents 20 unpublished works of large format created for the occasion, it opened March 17, 2018 “Nothing can stop me.” His style sees calligraphy, color and pictorial material mixed together, invading the entire surface of the work. The result is pure energy thanks to the lines and the brightness of the colors.
He is inspired by everyday life and he always brings his book of sketches with him on his daily trips to Melbourne. His paintings are the work of a passionate but discreet observer of everyday life. And so people in bars, halls, waiting rooms and other places that could be considered seemingly trivial are then exalted. Originally born as a graphic designer, Baker has worked with various commercial brands over the years. A curiosity: he still likes to use Pantone to compose his color palettes and he loves simplicity in all its forms using as few lines and colors as possible.
