TATTLY IS THE BIGGER STORE OF THE WORLD THAT PRODUCES TEMPORARY TATTOOS. A COMPANY THAT COMBINES IRONY AND LOVE FOR THIS ART. REDMILK MEETS YNG-RU CHEN, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING SECTION.
How and when is Tattly born?
Tattly was founded in July 2011 when Tina Roth Eisenberg sought to find a better solution to the ugly temporary tattoos her young daughter was bringing home from birthday parties.
What does it mean to you the aesthetics of the body?
As a company, we see that self-expression is one of the keys to happiness. We know of someone high up in government who wears a Tattly everyday, on his arm, under his shirt and suit. It’s his own little secret and he changes the Tattly each day depending on the mood.
Tattoos are designed by many artists: which are your criteria to select them? How can they become a co-worker with Tattly?
Our founder selects the artists and she looks for people whose work would translate well as temporary tattoos. Everyone selected enters into a licensing deal with Tattly so they are not employees of the company. We do not have a submissions process so it’s really simply about finding art that resonates with us.
Have you ever refused to produce a draw/tattoo?
That’s not really the business model for us, since Tattly is the one seeking the artist and art, not the other way around.
Which is your most affectionate clients?
Our core audience is women in the United States, age 25-35.
What do the children think about your tattoos, especially their parents?
We’ve found that Tattly is popular for everyone in the family. What started as a company for kids is now a brand also beloved by adults.
Have you ever been asked to reproduce a bizarre request?
For our custom Tattly service, we were asked to create edible tattoos. (We don’t make them.)
What do you think about traditional tattoos?
Traditional tattoos are amazing with an important history spanning cultures, genders, generations.
What is Tattly’s strength?
We focus primarily on temporary tattoos and don’t sell other items such as stickers, pins or other accessories. So, it’s important that we innovate within this specific field. Our latest line of Scented Tattly has received attention worldwide for how innovative it is.
