PFW FALL WINTER 2017-18 – Y-PROJECT FW
90s rappers, streetwear and XVIII century aristocracy. In its original and avant-garde vision, Glenn Martens manages to collide and to balance all of that in a vaguely underground and really current collection. If royalty today is represented by rappers and idols of pop culture, then it totally makes sense to embellish sports scarves with portraits of kings and queens of the past. It also makes sense to try to give a lush and baroque allure to items stolen from workwear, by exaggerating and distorting the silhouettes, adding layers, opening wide slits, alternating deconstructed jeans with luxurious and refined materials – satin, velvet and fox furs –, increasing the volume of hoodies with layers of tulle, and opting for jeweled gladiators that cling to the legs like the coils of a snake.
