THE CONCEPT OF MOVEMENT INCLUDES VARIOUS FEATURES OF OURSELVES. IN THE "MOTION DIARY" BY HEDI SLIMANE, THE MOVEMENT IS EXPRESSED WITH THE BODY, THE MUSIC AND THE IMAGE.
Divided into three sections (up to now) it has as its protagonist Georgia May Jagger in the homonymous video shot in September 2010 with an hand-held camera and in black and white (as almost all the Slimane’s works). Set in a garden and a very beautiful living room, the video highlights a simple and gentle motion that reveals the deeper side of the iconic supermodel, the daughter of the always timeless Mick Jagger. In another section of the “Motion diary” called “I love usa” the protagonists are two children.
Only the diegetic sound of the strings of a musical instrument played by a child is accompanied by the rustle of the pon pon shaked by a mini cheerleader on the beat. Moments that recall a little bit the atmosphere of the final scene of Truffaut’s “Les quatre cents coups”. A bit like Antoine (Jean Pierre Laud) in Godard’s 1959 film, here the two friends walk and lie down by the sea, with fresh wind in their hair.
In the third and final section of the visual diary, “Improvisation 1”, the body let improvise with classical dance steps on the beat of a live drum and percussions. A syncopated dance with jetè and rond de jambe. The interpreter is a beautiful dancer hovering between cotton balls, shrouded by a total darkness, sometimes accompanied, also on the stage, by the drummer. A visual diary by Slimane that creates a universe by itself, made of an elegant concept of movement, photography, image and sound. The choice to create all the images and videos in black and white makes everything even more restrained and elegant.
