LFW FALL WINTER 2017-18 – RYAN LO
Watching Ryan Lo’s FW17 just presented at LFW is a bit like watching a Japanese mahō shōjo anime – those imbued with pastel colours, where the leading characters are magical girls. Among bright colours, Hello Kitty-themed prints and an infinite range of shades of pink, what made the show really spectacular was the beauty aspect. Designed to emulate that doll-like kawaii look of manga’s female characters, make-up is concentrated mainly on the eyes, which become huge. The lower rim is dropped down by using a white pencil, while the eyelids are framed by a very particular cut-crease with green and purple non-matching eyeshadows. Incredibly long false eyelashes are used not only over real lashes but also on the eyelid’s crease, creating the illusion of an even bigger eye. The porcelain skin illuminated by a lively touch of blush emphasise the doll look, while lips remain nude or are highlighted with gloss. The final touch is the hairstyles, created by applying coloured bangs and voluminous pigtails starting from the top of the head and framing the face.
