LFW FALL WINTER 2017-18 – FAUSTINE STEINMETZ
Faustine Steinmetz has revolutionised denim. Thanks to an experimental approach and innovative techniques, the French designer has chosen this very basic and “poor” material as the case study of her collections, turning it into a precious fabric with multiform qualities and an ever-changing spirit. For FW17, Steinmetz presents a study on the interpretation of denim through 30 different countries. Thus, while remaining faithful to the deconstructed aesthetics typical of the brand, the collection is enriched with new and “multicultural” inspirations, borrowing, for example, a bleaching technique from Israel or the shibori, an ancient Japanese technique of tie-dye which comes with an intricate processing of knots and kinks. Among classical proportions and sharp and defined cuts, shredded creations of impalpable and ethereal lightness, and the embellishments and sequins’ evening touch, Faustine Steinmetz designs a collection which hides a meticulous search and demands to be read behind the surface.
