FOR REDMILK’S MAGIC ISSUE NEW YORK BASED PHOTOGRAPHER IRA CHERNOVA INTERVIEWED TALENTED VISUAL ARTIST COREY WASH, WHO’S NONETHELESS THE MODEL OF THIS WEEK STORY: COREY GOES RED. THEY CHATTED ABOUT MAGIC AND ITS INFLUENCES IN ART AND EVERYDAY LIFE…
Is it still magic, when its sourced from bad moods?
Bad moods inspire a lot of the magic in my everyday life, so I’d have to say yes. From personal experiences to my illustrations (which express those experiences), I’m always transforming those moods into something greater.
How do you deal with days you have no light to guide you?
By allowing the darkness to take over and guide me to the root of it all, instead of rushing back to the light.
You love nature – plants and flowers and all (so do I, it’s the nirvana state) – were you always into that element or it came with years?
I’ve stayed around nature pretty much my whole life. Whether it was helping my mom in her garden or her taking my brother and I hiking in the mountains when we were kids, we’d always find a connection to the earth. I guess through the years it stuck with me, as a sanctuary. Being surrounded by plants, or even just having one in a room keeps me serene.
Whats the best gift for most special human for you?
Love and books!
What it takes to describe human relationships as magical? (If you’d ever use that word for relationship)
A lot of love, great inside jokes, a great listener.
Most magic place you ever been too, and what was this day about?
So far, Johannesburg, South Africa. The city was so beautiful, the food was amazing and I’d never seen so many stars at night!
What color would you paint magic with?
How to keep inner child alive when you’re growing more and more into adulthood?
At last – magic versus reality – 50/50, 100/0 – how do you like it?
Reality is magic! It’s all in your perspective…
