THE MOONLIGHT TAKES 1.28 SECONDS TO REACH THE EARTH.
1.28 SECONDS THANKS TO WHICH ALL ON THE GROUND IS AS ITS APPEARS.
1.28 SECONDS WITHOUT WHICH OUR NIGHTS WON’T BE THE SAME, SHAKESPEARE’S LITERATURE WOULD BE POOR, SEAS WOULD BE BORING, LOVERS WILL BE KISSING EACH OTHER MORE OFTEN IN THE DARK AND, ABOVE ALL, MAYBE WITCHES WON’T EXIST AT ALL.
On November 14th we’ll be lucky enough to witness a phenomenon that hasn’t occurred for 70 years: a special“supermoon”, the closest full moon to the Earth, not only of this year, but the the first one after 70 years. The next will come Nov. 25, 2034.
At 12:24 Italian time the moon will be at its perigee, or its closest distance from Earth.
FULL MOON. From an astronomical point of view, what happens with the full moon is that the lunar hemisphere visible from Earth is fully illuminated by the Sun.
From a romantic point of view … Well guys, I don’t know if you ever had the fortune to find yourself somewhere special during a full moon night. It happened to me.
The dunes of the desert, with the full moon, become a boundless expanse of sinuous and soft lines, almost sensual, but a cold and magnetic kind of sensuality. Everything becomes faintly clear, visible, filled with a feeling of immensity and a sense of suspension that amplify the wonder of the day. This is what also happens to your soul in a full moon night.
SUN KNOWS OUR BODIES, BUT MOON KNOWS OUR SOUL. In astrology, the moon’s position at the time of our birth reflects our subconscious; read our instinct’s most hidden sides, and the more feminine side of each one of us. Calculating our birth chart, you can identify in which sign is “our moon”.
The moon is the symbol of the feminine par excellence, and reminds us of the natural duality inherent in every human issue; also reminds us that everything is well connected thanks to forces invisible to us; and that everyone has a “dark side”, not just the one featured in our favorite ’70s albums.
The moon is also the mother of all witches and the “main ingredient” of many spells. Speaking of which, I’ll take you on a rediscovery journey of your magical essence – yes, because you also have one – and you have it since forever. As children, with the full moon, you looked up and to anyone close by you would say: “Look at that beautiful moon”.
THE MEANING OF THE MOON PHASES AND HOW TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEM
In any pagan ritual, as well as in nature, the moon punctuates rhythms and governs events and deadlines.
Taking into consideration the lunar phases to accomplish little rituals for our own benefit, is an easy way to “test” and implement our magic.
Wishing at the right time could allow us to combine our determination with a little bit of help from the Queen of the stars.
There are four lunar phases:
The waxing moon is the time when the visible “slice” of the moon grows a bit at a time. It’s propitious to everything new and all beginnings; the perfect time to start new projects and everything related to the growth. We all have heard of an ideal time to cut our hair, or the lunar calendars for sowing or pruning: here, the crescent moon is perfect for all these activities.
The full moon is the moon of prosperity, knowledge and enlightenment.
During the full moon there are two little rituals that we can do to benefit from her influence. The first is to expose all night a glass of clear water in the moonlight, to create the ”moon water”.
Drinking a sip of this “magic water” every morning balances the energy of our body, and it’s also beneficial to animals and plants.
The other one is to expose our jewelry and our stones at the full moon for “reloading”. Those familiar with the concept of crystal therapy knows that the stones are “recharged” with the light of the sun or moon. After being rinsed under running water for a long time, expose them all night in the moonlight and wear them again. Repeat this operation at every full moon.
The waning moon follows the full moon, when the light visible to us on its surface thins more and more every day. Is perfect for removal and purification rituals, to stop habits that we want to quit or situations that no longer have reason to exist. In general, for all that has as a purpose of “end” or decrease something.
The new moon also called Black Moon or Infernal Hecate (Hecate was, for the ancient Romans, the goddess of magic). During this phase the moon is not visible from Earth. It’s the moon of the rest, of reflection, of “no action”; of accumulation of new forces to give to new opportunities and knowledge the chance to reach us or emerge from our subconscious. During the new moon you shouldn’t take important decisions. Instead, we should take advantage of these days to take a break to reflect and devote ourselves just to ourselves.
Whether we like it or not, the moon is present in our lives at all times. It causes changes in our body, but also in our subconscious.
Befrriend her allows us to increase its beneficial influence in our lives. Ignoring her … well, if ignored, nothing happens, of course. But I’m sure that next time you’ll notice people around you particularly tense or nervous, or when you feel restless for no apparent reason, you will have the curiosity to peek at the lunar calendar. And most likely you’ll find that you are close to a full moon or a new moon.
However, when you look at the moon, think that it’s exactly the same one that Shakespeare, Leopardi, Marie Antoinette or Jim Morrison looked to in their sleepless nights.
No matter who you are or what you do, remember to cultivate your magic. Because believing you can accomplish impossible things, is the first step to make them possible.
