OVER THE PAST DECADES, SKATE CULTURE HAS BECOME AN INSPIRATION FOR THE WORLD OF ART, FASHION, MUSIC, FILM AND PHOTOGRAPHY.
Photographer Ian Kenneth Bird documented London skate community over the past two and a half years. London for Ian was a turning point in his career, after almost a decade of skateboarding, he began to document the skate culture with his camera. The most important achievement of the photographer is the series called “Do not Know What I Want But I Want It Now”, a unique collection in black and white of photos taken to the youth skater culture. Intimate portraits, in which there’s a focus on the details of the subjects represented, where fashion and street art merge to create a single photographic vision. Young teenagers in skate tracks, with homemade tattoos and all that identifies the skate culture of our days. His photographs captures the talent, the anguish and overflowing youthful exuberance of the East London skateboard community.
