Some daddies buy a pony for their little princess or build their kids treehouses, Kevin Smith instead writes and directs a movie for his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith, to star in. And writes a part for her lifelong best friend, since that friend is Lily-Rose Depp.
In the frenzy of this horror comedy plot, he casts her father as well – an unrecognizable Johnny Depp, who returns to play the role of the quirky detective Guy Lapointe, as seen in the previous movie ”Tusk”.
The second chapter of Smith’s splatter trilogy is about mad scientists, mutants and two Canadian girls, Collen & Collen. And like every teen-on-screen clichè, worthy of its name, they live in symbiosis: they go to school together, do yoga together, play in a band and work in a boring convenience store always together. When two older boys invite the Colleens to a kegger-party, the girls are determined to go no matter what, even if the whole Canada was in danger, threatened by an alien invasion of “Bratzi”.
Kevin Smith presented his pulp and nonsense story dedicated to the Instagram-generation at the Sundance Film Festival.
His cast is completed by Haley Joel Osment (the well-known kid form The Sixth Sense, who now plays a Nazi politician), Genesis Rodriguez, Adam Brody, Tyler Posey, Justin Long and Stan Lee.
The film will be released in American theaters on July 29th.
