The patching technique was developed in past centuries when women recycled the best parts of the now worn out garments to repair other clothes or even to sew up a new ones…
Back to the 80s and 90s youngsters took hold of this technique to decorate their wardrobe with badges and patches stating loud and clear their social identity.
Today the patch trend is back from the DIY street style straight up to spring/summer 2016 collections: from Gucci and Pucci’s flora&fauna embroidery to Dolce&Gabbana postcards passing through Alexander McQueen victorian designs.
Those appliqués got even more attention in the past weeks thanks to two different themed parties: The Marc Jacobs “#PatchParty” held to present his college inspired patch-pack limited collection and the “LOVE Club x Itchy Scratchy Patchy” at Dover Street Market.
As we all crave different ways to add bits of personality to our favorite basics, patches have that cool nostalgic vibe in them that really suits us!
