The March issue of RedMilkMagazine is about Gangs. Do you have – from your side – a sort of gang that is integral part of your world? If yes, how many people gravitate around you?
There’s gang of independent art and photography book makers and publishers rising in the last few years. Artist books have become a new way for artist to express themselves. At the moment you’ll see many art book fair rising all over the world. It is still a niche of course, but it is a positive movement where people start to enjoy the production of printed matter again.
Do you think there’s a form of natural selection when people get together to work or how you like to select your team?
Certain people are attracted to each other, and the same you’ll see also on a professional level. You work with the people you like and they work with you because they find you interesting to work with. The character of a person is often more important than the professional level of their work. You can easily improve the professional level, but it’s harder to improve your character. In a team you’re also often as good as the team you work with.
Communication 10 years and today: technology did change our approach and way to work. How do you see our role of communicator in 10 more years?
Since all our technology, computer programs and application are very democratic to use nowadays and have reached a level of perfection, we more and more have to focus on the idea. For many years bad ideas could be covered up by beautiful executions and designs, this hopefully is going to disappear in the future. Good ideas is our only currency in the future.
Which is a brand that has vision and skills to succeed nowadays?
This is a brand that is able to integrate on many different levels and media. It’s a brand with a clear way of speaking and tone of voice. And it’s also a brand that takes itself not always serious and can question itself and laugh about itself.
About magazine: print or online? And will print ever die?
There’s a slow but strong revival of print on its way. It can be compared with the revival of vinyl records and the fact that there are more cinema visits than ever. People sometimes get bored of being online constantly and want to switch of by touching real things and physically getting together with other people.
And which is the most interesting city in the world where to scout trends and why.
This would be either London or Tokyo. London for its huge creative community. Creative people from all over the world group together and live there for some years. And Tokyo for a city that combines extreme new innovations with extreme old traditions.
Your daily motto.
Life’s too short to spent with assholes
