AN INTERVIEW TO PHOTOGRAPHER BJARKE JOHANSEN & ART DIRECTOR SIMON RASMUSSEN THAT DESCRIBE THE FEMALE FORM AS CENTRAL THEME IN ART IN A BEAUTIFUL BOOK THAT PORTRAYS A SELECTION OF 100 BEAUTIFUL WOMEN. PUBLISHED BY TENEUES IS THE PERFECT WAY TO CELEBRATE FEMININE GRACE AND STRENGTH FOR #THEWOMANISSUE BY REDMILK
HOW LONG DID YOU WORK ON THE PROJECT AND HOW MANY GIRLS DID YOU CASTED?
We have worked on this project for around 8 years. Through the years we have shot close to 130 women.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE DANISH BEAUTY? DOES THIS BOOK PROVE THAT DENMARK CAN BE SEEN AS A LAND OF BEAUTY IN THE FEMALE LANDSCAPE?
Definitely! We often hear out in the world that the average of beauty is really high here in Denmark. You almost see beautiful people everywhere you look when you are out on the streets. Both women and men.
People here have a great look. No doubt about that. They are tall, lean and have good an interesting features, but what really makes them beautiful are their aura and personality. That’s the thing can makes them attractive.
100 GIRLS. BUT WHICH IS THE NO. 1 OF ALL?
We have worked with so many amazing women. Josephine Skriver who is on the cover of the book is beyond this world. You have to look long for a woman who is so grounded, down to earth, sweet and stunning in every way like her.
EVERY PORTRAIT HIDE A STORY OF FEMININITY. WHICH ONE WAS THE MOST TOUCHING?
We have shot the women all over the world so there are good memories and stories to almost every single of them. To shoot Lykke May in 2009 on the back of a white horse out in the mountains of Colorado, that was just incredible.
REDMILKMAGAZINE FEBRUARY ISSUE IS #THEWOMANISSUE: WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT THE WOMEN PORTRAYED IN THIS BOOK?
They are all extremely confident and secure in their own skin. They love their bodies and are proud of themselves. Our inspiration was the 90’s supermodels and we wanted to do natural and honest portraits without a lot of make-up and obviously minimum of styling. Only women who loves themselves can do this.
