IT IS THANKS TO THE “WILD STORIES”, NARRATED BY THE LOOKS OF THE YOUNGSTERS, THAT IT IS WORTH TO RECONSTRUCT THE CONTEMPORARY BACKGROUND, FROM ALL POINTS OF VIEW: FROM THE HIDDEN TO THE IRRIVERENT ONES. LITTLE EXPERIENCE AND A SHORT AMOUNT OF LIVED TIME GIVE THE NAIVETY AND THE AUDACITY TYPICAL OF A GENERATION
A contemporary and realistic view of the Californian background is put on by Gia Coppola in the film “Palo Alto”. In this movie Jack Kilmer, who we can define as “the new River Phoenix”, interprets a boy from a small town who, with his friends, will see paths of life stories that has still to take their shapes, taking different roads in a short amount of time.
A messy and unsatisfied attitude which looks good on the camera and will certainly become an icon of coolness.
Roughness and maladjustement are also described in the film “Girl, interrupted” with Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder as it has never been done before. Two girls, locked in a psychiatric hospital, make instability and vulnerability the true protagonists of that age.
With “J’ai tue ma mère”, “Les amoures imaginaires” and “Mommy” the director Xavier Dolan has given a poetic and deep view of hidden, but common dynamics, thanks to his young and yet very experienced eye.
Particular attention is paid to the role of the mother who accompanies us from childhood to the adulthood but that often becomes a scapegoat for personal dramas and problems. However at the same time the mother remains the main reference point.
In “The virgin suicides” by Sofia Coppola the figure of the mother becomes a sort of monster who restricts daughters’ breath creating a claustrophobic atmosphere made of interactions which translate a borderline story into an universal one.
The world of the two DJ and models “Disco Smack” is transgressive and shattered. They are the protagonists of the coolest parties of the fashion world. The pair completes each other and creates a universe without limits, rules or constraints.
