THE ART OF MAURIZIO ANZERI

MAURIZIO ANZERI IS AN ARTIST BORN IN 1969 IN A VILLAGE NEAR BOLOGNA. HE STUDIED SCULPTURE AND GRAPHIC DESIGN AT THE COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS IN CAMBERWELL AND AT THE SLADE SCHOOL OF FINE ART IN LONDON, OBTAINING A MASTER'S DEGREE IN FINE ARTS AND SCULPTURE

Today Anzeri lives and works in London and is internationally recognized for his surrealistic creations. His works have a psychological aura that reveals thoughts or feelings of the person portrayed. Embroidering the artist shows emotions on the forgotten faces of strangers. The private nature of a portrait becomes a public space, available to the psychological inclination of the spectators. In his creations the means combined together have a new effect in which past and future are unite. For his works is inspired by personal experience, on the observation of how in other cultures bodies become symbols. A new attempt to redefine the space in a reshaping of stories, in exploration of the relationship between intimacy and the world around us. Labyrinths of forms and colors create intriguing geographies of faces, stories and souls in a private reality that becomes fantasy for the audience.

“I work with embroidery and drawing to explore the essence of the signs in their physical manifestation. I draw inspiration from my personal experience and observation of how, in other cultures, the bodies are sometimes conceived as living graphic symbols. I use embroidery to re-interpret and mark the space with a human sign, a trace.”
