DISCOVER WITH US INDIAN WELLS, AN ITALIAN BASED PRODUCER RELEASING RECORDS THROUGH BAD PANDA RECORDS, THAT WILL PERFORM AT THE SECOND EDITION OF VASTO SIREN FESTIVAL IN ITALY FROM 23rd to 26th of JULY.
Ciao Pietro, here RedMilkMagazine!
Tell us who is INDIAN WELLS and what’s the inspiration behind the name?
Indian Wells is inspired by the name of a tennis tournament which is part of the American Master 1000, because of my passion for this sport I chose this name and in fact my first record “Night Drops” was totally inspired by exploits of Borg and McEnroe.
I am a producer who lives in Calabria, Cosenza city. I started making music when is was 24 years with a project called Iroi, with whom I made a record.
What about your latest LP ‘Pause’? And the meaning of the places that we are mentioned inside
Pause, as the name suggests, is a parenthesis, both in music and life terms, as it was composed in a particular period for me. The places that I describe in the LP are places where I was or imaginary places that I created in my mind and translated into music.
For example, New York Nights was definitely inspired by the month I spent in the United States last year, when I had the chance to play in New York, a wonderful experience.
The song with Matilde Davoli is very nice, amazing voice. How did the collaboration started?
The collaboration was born because we’ve been friends since many years and among other things she already was featured in the first LP with few voice intro and mix.
So it was quite natural for me to continue working with her asking her to sing a song on the new album.
As well as on the human level I have great respect for her as an artist and I recommend you listen to his new album “I’m Calling You From My Dreams”.
Which have been your reference artists at the beginning of your career and if they have changed over time.
Early in my career I mostly listened to post rock, then among others Mogwai, Slowdive, Giardini di Miro, but a great influence had also electronic artists like Massive Attack.
In the time, my plays have moved more and more on electronic musicians and my favorite are Jon Hopkins, Four Tet, James Holden, Caribou.
We will be at Vasto Siren Festival for you and other national & international talents. What do you think about the music scene and festivals in Italy now?
What I would say is that there’s a certain movement both artistically and in terms of events, resulting an increase in the quality of what is produced.
In spring I played the Spring Attitude Festival in Rome and i was impressed by the quality of the artists proposed, the level of the line-up was not different from big electronic festivals in Europe.
I could say the same thing will happen at Vasto Siren Festival that takes place in an unusual place offering a great level of musical variety.
Indian Wells and fashion. How do you get dressed?
My everyday life brings me to change the type of clothing very often. It’s like I have two personalities, one in the morning to work with a suit and tie and after work where I like to be comfortable, with sneakers, jeans and t-shirt.
Do you still play tennis?
Unfortunately I stopped for a while. The time i devote to tennis is becoming less and less due to canonical work and music productions.
Thanks and see you in Vasto!
Thanks to you!
