Where should I start?...
Maybe I wanted to document my life a little deeper than what I could do with just a diary and a pen. Or maybe it was because the sprained ankle kept me away from the road and I was literally losing my mind, I needed to keep my mind busy to avoid falling into total depression. I needed pictures.
I started taking pictures of them, my friends, I mean. At the time we were just kids with lack of judgment, without any concerns. The road meant everything. We literally breathed it …. There was no other way.
The boys were waiting for me on the wall of the Zara baths in Viareggio, where everything started. Skateboarding killed the boredom of life, striking down the rules imposed by a society, reluctant towards the existence of a movement linked to this subculture. A sidewalk made us free, a bench out of control.
I’ve not much to tell about my childhood, I can only remember through images long days with my friends, the smell of films, the wounds on our knees, the sweat, every time we risked to get lost along the way and the infinite joy of being a part of it.”
