ADE 2014: HIGHLIGHTS

EVER HEARD OF SXSW IN AUSTIN AND WMC MIAMI? IF YES, ADE, AN ACRONYM FOR AMSTERDAM DANCE EVENT, WILL SOUND FAMILIAR. WE ATTENDED ADE FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR AND THERE IS SO MUCH TO TELL, SEE AND LISTEN TO. HERE OUR HIGHLIGHTS

TRAINING: 2,000 djs, 300 events, 80 clubs, at least 20 party every night that it is a crime to miss out: one thing that they forget to tell you when you go to ADE for the first time is that you have to train yourself not to sleep. The program is unique and offers five days of EDM of the best quality, film screenings, presentations of new products, conferences and talk shows, art shows and exhibitions scattered around the beautiful city of Amsterdam. The goal is to try and see as much as possible but impossible to achieve it even for the most experienced of the event-goers.

AFROJACK: I didn’t not remember him so tall (2.08) and hairy: we met the Dutch dj during our first day at Rembrandtplein when we were getting our accreditation. Sorrounded by photographers and fans, he had one of the most anticipated show during ADE2014 held in the magnificent (and huge) Ziggo Dome.

THE BRAVE NEW WORLD OF DANCE MUSIC JOURNALISM: A panel to discuss how to make music journalism today with excellent speakers as Nick DeCosemo of MixMag, Rafael Weiss of Reddit, Shawn Reynaldo of XLR8R and Zel McCarthy Thump. Zel, who on twitter is called the “dirty blond Jared Let,” was the soul of the panel between eccentricities and the undeniable power of Vice Media.

BOY GEORGE: getting organized to follow a fellow journalist who has to interview Boy George on a friday. And finish just to have lunch, remembering the legendary 80s, because “the diva” forgot the appointment.

FKA TWIGS: Long awaited gig. Unable to interview her right now. It will not be easy even bring her to Italy due to her (already) stellar cachet. At Paradiso Amsterdam her live show started 65 minutes (65!) late. The public, however, waited patiently and she gave a performance that was worth the long wait. On stage she moves with confidence, dancing sinuously and enchants with her deep voice and the trip-hop futuristic sound.

TRAGO TOM: Tom Trago has now become a constant presence of our EDM trips. After an evening together in Corfu during Barrakud Festival, it was nice to check him out in his hometown, wearing his usual hat making you feel part of his family.

MUSIC TALKS: Beautiful location at the De Brakke Grond and interesting panels involving many artists of ADE14. Nicky Romero was one the protagonist, telling the public about his early career until the worldwide success.

NORA EN PURE: One of the few girls playing at ADE 2014 We interviewed her the afternoon after her DJ set at Meltweg, in one of the characteristic bridges of Amsterdam. About ADE she says: “Crowded, with a very good and positive vibe.” A special interview will follow shortly on RM.

FELIX THE MERITS and DYLAN HOTEL: both on the famous Keizersgracht, Felix and Dylan have been the meeting place for conferences and networking for all the guests coming to ADE 2014. Producers, artists, managers: everyone daily met outside these venues.

DUBFIRE: During ADE there was the world premiere of his new live: HYBRID. An artist who knows how to reinvent himself, Dubfire presented at Roest Warehouse a spectacular live in 2D and 3D animations. One of the best events of ADE2014.

TROUW: One of the most innovative and successful venue in Amsterdam. Interviewed by Resident Advisor at The Dylan Hotel, Olaf Boswijk – the founder – told us why this is the last year of Trouw. The audience await the new amazing challenge to become reality.

DANIEL MILLER: 63 years and still on stage. The founder of Mute Records and who discovered Depeche Mode band does not disappoint the audience that awaited him at Meltweg during Dave Clarke night.

If you want to live in a professional way the club culture the Amsterdam Dance Event is an unmissable event.
And it is nice to discover that there is still a lot of professionalism and quality.
