The Italian surfer has a light in his eyes different from an Ocean surfer. The Italian surfer seeks the conditions that the sea gives more or less often, depending on the storms that hit the peninsula, in order to enjoy the waves.
He waits for them, makes kilometers to reach the coasts, driving many miles and sometimes in vain.
He waits, plans, hopes and imagines the perfection on which he lays dreams and lightness.
Sometimes Mother Nature lets you down but as all the great love stories, you’ll be there waiting for the next time she will make you feel again her king. And it is in this moment that the most beautiful feeling in the world is going to wipe out disappointments and kilometers.
Italians surfers need to be celebrated and cuddled: Luca Merli has directed PENINSULA a Documentary Film, that tells the story from the origins to nowadays of some of the surf protagonists “Made in Italy”.
We want to celebrate it with portraits of some of the surfers who appear or not in the film, that we met in Recco at the Tip Toe Festival: a weekend with the protagonists of this world to praise the sea and all the friends who are part of an allied community of romantic researchers.
We asked them, “Who are you in the water?”
Here are their answers along with their expressions portrayed in their ideal location, the sea.
WHO ARE YOU IN THE WATER?
“In the water I feel a realized person, a traveler who, after years of hard work and relocations has found his perfect home. Stoked!”
I’m everything I want to be, outside it’s all a rape!
Elisabetta Dal Bello:
The answer to all my questions.
I don’t know, if I knew it I would have stopped surfing! The beautiful thing is just that, you go into the sea and you don’t know anymore who you are… and you go, seek and go, seek and go… and it is up to the sea.
Giorgio Inti Piacentini:
I am an happy child who was given a new toy, ready to share smiles and waves with my friends… but only with them.
A “guest”. But the sea – you know – sometimes welcomes you and others slam the door into your face, and then the shit is gonna hit the fan.
An eternal explorer, a seeker of new emotions, speed, style, power and lightness at the same time: only the sea, in its eternal movement, can give you all of this!
“The sea will grant each man new hope, as sleep brings dreams of home”: Christopher Columbus.
I’m a water dancer.
Que Sbrokked Lentinello:
Ask the sea what it does think about me, I don’t think it will respond!
“I am an ordinary person, I use the sea as a means of relief from all the surroundings…Apart from being a great passion and source of entertainment!”
