A great classic of the fair which is renewed every year thanks to collaborations with the most avant-garde designers. We are talking about Lasvit, present again this year in the Satellite Salon in via Tortona, which combines the production of crystal with the ideas of Dutch designer Maarten Baas and renowned American architect Daniel Libeskind. In fact, it is the architect of CityLife who, this year, has realised Ice, a chandelier inspired by the freezing landscapes of the Antarctic.

Spazio Erbe – Via delle Erbe 2
Young, but already a veteran of the Milan Furniture Fair, this year Nendo has accepted the challenge from COS. In the Spazio Erbe the COS shirt has been placed in an ambient in which everyday objects are reinvented, thanks to sculptural pieces based on the mutual interaction between shirts and structure. Its only objective? To surprise.

The historic Dutch academy is back again this year at the Furniture Fair with its undergraduates, who have realised a project with the theme of “Self Unself”. The works, objects and videos will be presented in a space which is located in one of the most avant-garde districts of the renowned Milanese Fair. This year, in the space, there will also be dates with important guests from the world of design. Amongst those invited : Juergen Bey, Justin McGuirk, Tamar Shafrir and Rossana Orlandi.
IN A STATE OF REPAIR: A PROJECT BY SERPENTINE GALLERIES AND MARTINO GAMPER

A wonderful project centred on the theme of reflection on the personalisation, repair and re-use of objects destined for scrap. This year La Rinascente has asked for the contribution of Martino Gamper for the installation, “In a State of Repair”, in collaboration with London’s Serpentine Galleries. In the store’s eight window displays there will be the same number of artisans – chosen by Gamper – engaged in repairing objects. You can take along anything and the designers will help you to give a new form to purchases which have been relegated to a corner of the house. Anything from handbags to bicycles.

Bisazza – Via Senato 2
A unique collaboration that sees the excellence and the skills of Italian craftsmanship blend in a single universe that is highly colourful but sophisticated. We are talking about Bisazza, the historic brand of luxury design, and of maison Emilio Pucci. In their showroom in via Senato 2, they will present a path through trend-setting interiors that realise Pucci’s fantasies. The new graphic mosaic patterns are spectacular and, like a carefully tended skin, make every living and liveable space perfect.

The historic Milanese maison, Etro, has chosen the occasion of the Furniture Fair to inaugurate their new boutique and Etro Home showroom, which is located right in the centre of the Brera Fuori Salone Design District. During this time the first capsule collection of Etro furniture will be presented and one of the eight display windows of the store will host the installation “Beyond Black”, designed by the Analogia Project.

That of the 8th of April will be just the first of the musical events that will form part of the “Light Design” project to be held in the gardens of Villa Reale. It will be the sounds and styles of Tony Allen’s afrobeat which will inaugurate PAC/GAM’s space, dedicated to the most avant-garde contemporary art in the city, staged for the occasion in a sophisticated context of light design that emphasises the striking optic effect. A wonderful mix of music and design, the two spheres that have always characterised the spring edition of the Furniture Fair and which are symbolic of its success for the most expert and non-expert devotees of the sector

In line with the environmental and green mission of the Stella McCartney maison, for this Furniture Fair the English designer’s brand has collaborated with the celebrated Italian design brand, Former, in the project “Into the Forest”. This is a site specific installation to promote environmental sustainability which also makes use of the design produced by Alessandro Madami and Davide Pucci. Open to visitors from the 8th to the 13th of April, the project will then be donated to the Brera Botanical Gardens.

For the Furniture Fair Versace presents the new Palazzo Sofa, which draws inspiration from the maison’s new It-Bag for Spring-Summer 2014: the Palazzo Bag. It will form part of the extensive family of furnishings designed personally by Donatella, who has envisaged the world of the house with iconic pieces and brand elements. The sloping angle of the front of the arms of the sofa is a clear reminder of the “V” of Versace, which is entirely upholstered by hand in Milan.

Animal House is the colourful installation from Marni, where a series of limited edition pieces draw their inspiration from giraffes, ostriches, rabbits, ducks, donkeys and flamingos in metal and PVC, take possession of the maison’s space and combine with the new charity project. As in previous editions, Animal House has been produced entirely in Colombia, which this year involves a group of women who have gained their independence through work.

Maison Vionnet supports art in Milan for the second year running. The brand is the main partner of “Untold”, an exhibition curated by Rossana Orlandi, on display at the BagattiValsecchiMuseum. Antonio Marras takes part in the Furniture Fair in collaboration with the collective Segno Italia with the installation Un Volo a Planare (A flight to soar) which showcases some emblematic pieces, including the Chiavarina chair, Atestine ceramics and the Ramaioli Tridentini copper pots which come alive and fly through space. The aim of the project is to emphasise the culture of handcrafted products and of Made in Italy in the world.

This year Elita is back again with the Design Week Festival, with five days of concerts, exhibitions, DJ sets and new visual and sound expressions. #Spacemakers is the basic theme of this year’s edition: this ninth edition will explore the relationship between space and creativity. The guest names are the most well-known on the electronic scene: The Notwist, Mohawke, Joan As Policewoman, Madlib, and many others.
SOUVENIR OF MILAN

The famous work by Cattelan, L.O.V.E. (Love, Hate, Vendetta and Eternity) donated by the artist to the city of Milan and on show in Piazza Affari, will be celebrated on the occasion of Design Week. The statue of the middle finger, transformed into a music box e boule de neige produced by Seletti, inspires a limited edition t-shirt and undershirt designed by MSGM, and Disaronno even renames a cocktail, with delicacies from starred chef Cracco. In this way, Piazza Affari will become a cross-roads of events, where design, fashion, food and music all mix together.
