In the past days, Miami Beach was not only the home of Art Basel, but it has also become a city of unexpected encounters. Ece Sukan, stylist, image consultant and passionate of art and design, during her tour in the halls of Art Basel met our photographer Zelinda Zanichelli. They shot some images that describe with a perfect RedMilk style the mood of this city among palm trees, sunglasses and free spirits
I loove Miami vibe, vice, sun, ocean, colors, neon lights and art deco architecture. Perhaps I love Miami more during Art Basel. I have been coming to the fair for 5 years, and actually its been transforming for the last 2 years into an event more than an art show. Fashion scene started to dominate the collaborations and parties, so every year its more popular now.
Besides seeing such great artworks, art collaborations, new talents, classics, mind opener design ideas, its the the place where art-fashion&design people get together and create! Also have fun of course!
The blue chip galleries at the Miami Convention Center are always super inspirational to visit. The dominators are usually the same: and plus you must have seen the works before in Frieze or Art Basel which are usually Jeff Koons, Yayoi Kusama, Marina Abramovic, Doug Aitken, Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami, Andreas Gursky, Cindy Sherman and many more…
There are so many satellite fairs going on besides the main Art basel Miami Beach show: Unlimited, Scope, Pulse, Nada , any many more. I like the Nada one the most with the upcoming artists and independent galleries.
Design Miami used to be much bigger and was spread to the city much more before. Now its at the tent just next to Miami Convention Center. And of course there are many launches and design talks going on around the Wynwood area which I love. Although you see many interesting designs and collaborations at Design Miami , my all time favorites are always Jean Prouve and Gio Ponti booths.
The private family collections are a must-see: Rubell Family Collection had this amazing 28 Chinese exhibition, which was super intense. De la Cruz and Marquilez Collections are breathtaking as well.. Each year besides their permanent collections, they curate amazing shows.
This year Perez Art Museum (PAMM) did their opening with a short film directed by Tim Walker for Vionnet fashion house. W magazine hosted the launch of the movie in which amazing model Kristen Mcmenamy is starring. The museum is really impressive with the Americana collection and Ai Weiwei”s in-your-face works: the one he did after the Chinese earthquake.
Every night there are at least 3 private dinners with luxury brands, magazines and galleries and 3-4 parties which makes everyone run around the parties with the horrible traffic.. Wherever you either end
up at The Wall or Le Baron or Chez Andre’s. There are non stop parties at Delano and Soho Beach House as well.
The best thing is whenever you get overwhelmed with seeing so much art, you can jump into the ocean and take a day off just like I did. Feel the sun, walk around the city and refresh your mind and self!
