CECILIA AND LORENZO BRINGHELI

CANDELA NOVEMBRE MET BROTHER AND SISTER CECILIA AND LORENZO BRINGHELI FOR REDMILK: SHE IS THE YOUNG CREATOR OF A BRAND OF SLIP-ON SHOES IN CONTINUAL EVOLUTION, C.B. MADE IN ITALY; HE, A LITTLE OLDER, IS A SUCCESSFUL PHOTOGRAPHER. CLOSE FRIENDS AND BUSINESS PARTNERS, THEY TALK ABOUT THEMSELVES THROUGH THEIR SHARED PASSIONS AND INDIVIDUAL IDEAS.

What is the first thing you do as soon as you wake up?
C: I clean my teeth.
L: I move the alarm clock forward; I often set it for half an hour or an hour earlier than I need to: I want to wake up slowly, then, immediately after, I drink a fruit and vegetable shake, which is usually lovingly prepared by my girlfriend.

You are happy when…?
C: When I am with my friends and I have some free time to spend with the people I care about.
L: When my relationships with the people I love are tranquil and tension free. When I have free time to devote to my interests, which often coincide with my work. When I am in a beautiful place with pleasant people and good food.

Describe each other in three words
C: Lorenzo is sensitive, cultured and sweet. I would add, also very determined.
L: It is difficult to describe Cecilia in three words, but I’ll try: sincere, fair and determined.

What plans did you share when you were children, or what did you do together?
C: My brother has always been protective towards me, often jealous even, but with time that has got better. We argued a lot, we hit each other, too. I remember that he would say to me: ”If you don’t do this, you aren’t my best friend; if you don’t do that, you aren’t my sister any more”. As we grew up, things changed and we became very good friends, I would say confidants: he passed on to me his values and determination.
L: Nowadays, we don’t notice the small age difference between us. Whereas in the past, I was very protective towards her, even though I was only three and a half years older, and did the same silly things that she did. I got on her nerves, controlling her and the people she spent time with. We’ve certainly always trusted one another.

What plans do you share today?
C: We want to make our brand an expression of lifestyle. Apart from the shoes, we’d like to produce bags, belts, wallets and dog leads, but also objects. Our shared aim is also to be happy and to create a family; this is true for both of us, I have no doubt; and to feel good, having some time to be able to enjoy life, apart from work.
L: I will continue with my profession as a photographer, and with Cecilia; after her shoe project met with wide approval, we decided to set up a company in which she will continue to be the boss and deal with the creative aspect, while I will deal with the rest, in particular, with communication.

Which food do you think represents you?
C: Penne (pasta), oil and Parmesan cheese; the pasta firm, almost raw.
L: Spaghetti with tomato, very firm. I never get tired of eating it.

Which food do you think represents the other?
C: Certainly spaghetti with tomato and basil … we often talk about food.
L: Cecilia loves to eat well, but she is not a gourmet. Anyway, I think that for her it’s also spaghetti with tomato.

Cecilia, if you were a super heroine, who would you be?
Eva Kant. She’s wonderful even though I prefer brunettes. I adore Diabolik and this couple; they love and respect one another so much; they would save each other from everything and are always in beautiful places.

Lorenzo, if you were a mortal sin, which one would you be?
Sloth. Certainly not envy.

What is the last present you received from your brother/sister?
C: A watch. We were living in New York and came back to Milan for the Christmas holidays. We went around together to buy presents. For a joke, I asked him to buy me a Rolex. A few days later, in my parcel there really was a wonderful vintage Rolex.
L. I don’t remember.

Life is beautiful because…
C: It’s unique; I don’t think we realise how lucky we are. We complain too much. We take our health too much for granted, but it can’t be taken for granted. Life is beautiful because we laugh.
L: It’s all to discover. If you have a positive outlook, in spite of everything, you can make it wonderful, marking it with respect and fairness.

Life gets boring when…
C: When you don’t have any goals, when you become passive, when you take no interest in yourself, and as a result, no interest in others.
L: When you lose your curiosity. I never get bored.

Looking back on a job well done, how do you reward yourself?
C: I enjoy a pleasant evening with the people I love and, maybe, spend a weekend away, possibly having a swim in the sea.
L: I’m very self-indulgent. Sometimes I treat myself to a great dinner, or I enjoy a moment of happiness, also on my own. Even if the results are gathered with a partner, they are about you, yourself.

Dedicate a song to each other
C: The World by Jimmy Fontana; we always sing it, and it reminds me of the wonderful days spent on the boat in Positano.
L: We are Milanese, but we are both attached to the Neapolitan origins of our mother. So, “O Sole Mio”.

Is there anything you can’t do without?
C: Cigarettes, unfortunately.
L: I can’t do without eating well and having time to devote to myself.

Cecilia, what is the perfect look to go with your shoes?
A long dress for the evening, and jeans and a white t-shirt, or a check shirt, for the day.

Lorenzo, what is the essential ingredient for getting a good photo?
There is no exact rule, it’s something you feel inside. Very often it’s the first click, which is the most spontaneous, or the last one. For my taste, the simplicity of the lines is important.

Is there anything you would never wear?
C: High heels: I’ve always hated them; and a fur coat.
L: Flip-flops, or shorts in the city.
